In Mark 6 Jesus sent his disciples out on a short-term mission trip in which they were to preach the gospel, cast out demons, and heal the sick.
When they returned, they enthusiastically told Jesus all that had happened on their little expedition into ministry.
I can imagine what it was like for them; you usually come back from such ministry events on cloud nine, exhilarated and more motivated than ever.
What did Jesus say to them?
He didn’t say, “Not bad let’s take things up a notch. Go back out there and work a little harder.”
Instead, he said…
” Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while:” (Mark 6:31)
You can’t live your life all day every day in high gear, pedal to the medal, without soon running out of gas.
You can’t do it, but it doesn’t stop us from trying.
It’s bad enough when we do it to ourselves, but sometimes we have a tendency to do it to our family, keeping them busy all the time, coming and going all the time. Hurry, hurry, hurry!!!
I have come to realize that Life works best when you allow yourself some downtime. Don’t give up on the idea of hard work or long hours, because not only are they necessary, they’re also fulfilling.
But make sure, in the midst of your day-to-day activity, you’re not neglecting the quiet place, and the One who is calling you to meet him there.
One of the best ways to do that is to gather with a group of believers on the first day of the week and allowing yourself to slow down.
It is my hope you have had a great week as well as a great Saturday but I hope to see you in church this week. If you do not go to Calvary but you go to another church, I am sure your pastor as well as the membership will be glad to see you.
