As I awake from my slumber to celebrate my 54th thanksgiving I sit down to pen this post truly thankful for what I have.
- I live in a great country,
- I have a great citizenship
- but greater than those 2 things is that I am in Christ.
My country is not perfect. It is built up of people that were immigrants who desired a better country. A country where they could be free. A country where they could worship as they pleased without government interference. Truly to day I stand amazed that I live in what I deem as the greatest country on earth.
- I do not deserve it.
- I am not entitled to it.
- I did not work for it.
- I was born into it.
This makes it a great country and a great citizenship indeed.
There is another country that I can truly say is a better country than this and for that country I am looking for. The Bible tells us of that country in Hebrews 11. As we walk through the annals of those who lived and died in the faith of their God they all look for that better country. If you don’t believe me then read it for yourself…
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. Hebrews 11:13-16
If you ask me I have become like them as I serve God. They were not fanatical, crazy or abnormal, they were just normal people that believed God by faith. They declared themselves pilgrims and strangers in this country and they continued to look for that land that is fairer than day; that land that they could see afar, as the song tells us…
They simply stayed focused on finding that country because if they did not Vs. 15 tells us that if they focused in on where they came from they would have went back to it. They simply continued to look and live where God had put them and the Bible tells you and I that they continued looking being Pilgrims.
To tell you the truth, I desire that “better country, that is, heavenly”. I don’t want to go back either. I have come to far, but in the meantime I desire to live in the place God has put me and do what I can for those around me knowing God has prepared for me a city. All because by faith I asked Christ to forgive me and to save me. He did and now I am “In Christ”. I have been that way for 35 years and can say, honestly, that I don’t understand it but I do by faith except it.
This morning I live in a great country, I have a great citizenship but I know there is something better In Christ.
Today I am thankful and today I give thanks for the bountiful and full life I live In Christ.
To all this morning, “HAPPY THANKSGIVING!”
