Somebody once said, “The more Bible we know and disobey, the sadder we are.The more Bible we know and obey the happier we are!”
I think that person was quoting Jesus Christ. “If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.” John 13:17
I think as Christians we are not happy a lot of times because we are not doing what Christ tells us to do. He said in John 13:13-17 that we are called to be servants. As I watch Christians a lot of times, I include myself in that mix, I find we are to busy to be servants, but yet Jesus tells us that he gave the example and we are to be like him.
Too many times we desire to be…
- The one in charge
- The top dog
- The big cheese
When in reality we are called upon to serve.
The Greek word for servant is δοῦλος, and means “Somebody devoted to another to the disregard of one’s own interest.” How interesting! When was that last time I was devoted to someone according to that definition?
Can I give you my thoughts on “Real Servants”?
Real Servants are Self-less!
I am, by nature, selfish. I think most about me. That’s why humility is my a daily struggle, a lesson I must relearn over and over. The opportunity to be a servant comes to the forefront many times a day when I’m given the choice to decide between my needs or the needs of those around me.
We can measure our servants attitude by how we respond when others treat us like servants. How do you react when you are taken for granted, bossed around, or treated as an inferior? Matthew 5:41 says, “And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.”
Over the coming days church, let us be devoted to not only each other but let us be devoted to those we see around us by going that extra mile, by doing Self-less acts of love.
Let us be SERVANTS!
