This week I have been thinking about contending for our faith.
Over the years I have watched many walk away from what they have been taught and what they have seemingly believed about their faith. These are men and women who were in the ministry, and not in ministry, whom I believed were so solid that when they did walk away from their faith I had to take a step back and wonder how Satan has gotten such a strong hold.
That’s when Jude 1:3 came to my mind… “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”
As I meditated on this small one chapter book it was then I noticed the words in Vs. 4 “For there are certain men crept in unawares…” and I wondered who or what in their life had crept in unaware that would cause them to question all that they were so sure of?
What person slandered them or what action hurt them that made them want to be just like everybody else? So they quite… They walk away from…
- and even God
All because they gave their all and it was not good enough for the people. How sad!
Better than that is the fact that the pastor get’s so caught up in the people that he often forgets the one he vowed to cherish the rest of his days, so she has had enough and walks out on…
- and even God
I really wonder what crept in unaware that would cause this kind of defection? When did our Jesus become so blurry and the world became so clear that we are able to walk away from our faith and justify it and then blame it on a…
- or person?
Whatever it was, can I give a solution? One word that has kept me going… FOCUS.
Let us focus in on Jesus Christ and his plan.. It has not changed. He said that if they hated Him they would hate us. The plan of Jesus has not changed, His program has not changed, His objective has not changed. Jesus is a constant but that constant has gotten out of focus for some.
This coming week can I encourage you to make your week and the coming weeks about Jesus and his…
- Plan — Salvation for all
- Program — The church (Still is! God has not changed it contrary to popular belief!)
- Objective — To raise up a people that will tell the redemption story
Let us not lose sight of those things. Let us focus in on what Jesus has done for us instead of focusing in on the issues and things that hurts us. I can give plenty of stories but the one I look to always is the redemptive story of Jesus Christ.
This week let us contend for the faith!
